Alan R. Erickson, age 67, of Wonder Lake, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 28, 1947 in Chicago to Richard E. and LaVerne M. (Kucera) Erickson. On June 3, 1967, he married Diana Dombrosky at the First United Methodist Church in Palatine.
A resident of Wonder Lake for the past 16 years, Alan previously lived in McHenry for 7 years and Glendale, Arizona for 3 years. Before relocating to Arizona, he was a 13 year resident of Lake Zurich. Both he and Diana grew up in Palatine, where they met and were married, and made their home for the first 5 years of their marriage.
Alan worked in the automotive field for his entire career, beginning at the family business working with his father and brother at Erickson’s Auto Service in Palatine. Later he was employed by Weil Olds in Libertyville followed by A & A Auto Body. He also worked for a time at Gerber Auto Body, then returned to A & A Auto Body before retiring approximately 4 years ago.
He was a volunteer fireman with the Lake Zurich Fire Department for approximately 10 years. Enjoyments included doing wood carvings, especially ducks; as well as gardening, and fishing and hunting on trips throughout the country. Alan also enjoyed antiquing with his wife. He loved being a grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren. Alan will be fondly remembered for his good sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Diana; three children, Robert (Marian) Erickson of Johnsburg, Michael (Stephanie) Erickson of Phoenix, Arizona, and Kathrine (Adam) Yager of Wonder Lake; five grandchildren, Riley, Melanie, Haley, Elizabeth and David, with a sixth grandchild on the way; his mother, LaVerne Erickson of Sun City West, Arizona; his sister, Janet Erickson of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; and his brother Kenneth Erickson of Placitas, New Mexico.
Alan was preceded in death by his father on March 27, 2015.
Friends may gather with his family from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
