Alfredo C. Eguizabal ‘Big Al’, age 60, of Wonder Lake, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.
He was born February 6, 1952 in Cuba to Casimero and Sara (Cudras) Eguizabal. On November 25, 1972 he married Victoria Janowitz at St. Emily Church in Mt. Prospect.
Big Al was an incredible man, touching many lives through his spirit and love of family. He lived a very passionate life, full of experiences and beautiful memories. Many knew Al as the ‘Pool Guy’, however to his family and friends he was a psychiatrist, mechanic, babysitter, comedian, politician, chef, scientist, expert snow-plower, fix it man, mayor, mastermind, encyclopedia, poet, philosopher, artist, animal lover, painter and most importantly a loyal friend. Al’s greatest pleasures included sharing in the lives of his grandchildren, his wife and three children, his dog “Smokey,” cooking for his family and friends, Sunday Dinners, Music, and Painting. He also volunteered with the animal outreach society each year cooking for hundreds of people at their annual fundraiser. He believed that “family” was the most important thing in life. “Big Al” was an unforgettable man.
Survivors include his wife Victoria of 40 years; three children, Amie (Lance Kennedy) Eguizabal, Alison (Jason) Pohlhammer, Paul (Sylvia) Eguizabal; two grandchildren, Izabella and Wyatt; a brother, Casimero (Marlene) Eguizabal; many nieces and nephews; his best friends, Thomas (Joelle Clark) Cooper, Kent Duffy, Tino Sanchez, Santos Sanchez; and many other close friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake, IL 60097.
Words of Endearment will start at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be private.
