Alice E. Burkman, age 93, of McHenry, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Fair Oaks Health.
She was born November 19, 1913 in Ghent, Belgium to Oscar and Maria (Poppe) Schatteman. On June 20, 1959 she married Arthur H. Burkman who precede her in death on February 19, 2005.
Alice was born in Belgium and moved to the United States in 1925. She was a stay at home mom until venturing into business in 1958 when she became the proprietor of the Windson Tavern in Jefferson Park, Chicago. In the mid 70’s she retired, selling the tavern and moved to McHenry. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family in her home.
Survivors include two children, Camille (Donald) Robaczewski of McHenry, Allen (the lae Sherry) Burkman of Florida; son-in-law, Raymond Nelson of Chicago; seven grandchildren, Thomas (Marilyn) Robaczewski, Terri (Ron) Malek, Dan (Michelle) Robaczewski, Denise Robaczewski, Ray (Vicki) Nelson, Mark Nelson, Jennifer (matt) Eleveld; ten great grandchildren; and many nieces an nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H. Burkman of 45 years; a daughter, Esther Nelson; and her parents.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home 33519 W. Elm St., McHenry, Il 60050.
Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 2, at St. John The Baptist Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg, Il.
Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Johnsburg.
