Ann Rodenkirch Grabski, age 93, of McHenry, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.
She was born September 7, 1921 in Johnston City, IL, to Anthony and Anna (Kowalis) Shalton. On October 16, 1943, Ann married Hilary Rodenkirch at St. Maurice Church in Chicago.
A resident of McHenry for the past 66 years, Ann was employed in food service at McHenry Hospital for eight years and owned and operated the Pantry Deli on Riverside Drive for 15 years, where she worked with her husband.
Ann had also served as a Girl Scout leader and a volunteer for the Red Cross and Salvation Army. Memberships included Women of the Moose, Chapter 1348, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in McHenry, where she was also a member of the Christian Mothers.
Ann enjoyed spending her summers in St. Germain, Wisconsin. A trip to Italy was a highlight of her life. She had fond memories of touring Rome and visiting the Vatican.
Survivors include two children, Gerald (Anne) Rodenkirch of Richmond and Sandra (Elmer) Gorham of McHenry; five grandchildren, Debra (Patrick) Burns, Dawn (the late Mark) McMichael, James (Sonja) Gorham, Laura (Ken Klean) Schultz, and Brian (Sabina) Rodenkirch; six great-grandchildren, Shannon, Louis, Zachary, Rachael, Camryn, and Caleb.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her first husband, Hilary Rodenkirch; her second husband, Walter Grabski; and her brothers, Anthony and Chester Shalton.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, September 7, 2015, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, McHenry.
