Anna C. Knauf, age 89, of McHenry, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Alden Terrace Health Care Center in McHenry.
She was born October 1, 1923 in Chicago to Ivan and Estelle (Ellis) Brain. Raised and educated primarily in Chicago, as a teen Anna lived for a few years with an aunt in York, PA during the Depression. She returned to Chicago, living there until moving to Lake County, where she lived in the Round Lake/Grayslake areas for most of her lifetime. She worked at the family business in Round Lake, and later as a bookkeeper for approximately 10 years. Her most important role was that of being a homemaker and loving mother to her children, and later, a doting grandmother. After reaching her eighties, she moved to McHenry to live with her son for six years before residing at Alden Terrace for the past two years.
Anna enjoyed traveling, especially visits to family. She enjoyed reading, as well as participating in activities at the McHenry Township Senior Center. While living in Lake County, she attended Round Lake Community Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Round Lake Park.
Survivors include two children, Kimberley (Charles) Presley of Hayward, WI, and Michael (Laurie) Knauf of McHenry; three step-children, Susan Stubner of Fox Lake, Roberta (James) Bischoffer of Antioch, and James Knauf of Lindenhurst; and seven grandchildren, Kelly (David) Hall, Charles Presley, Matthew Presley, Elizabeth, Patrick, Jennifer, and Christopher Knauf; and a great-grandson, Dylan Cagle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sandra Furst in 1967; two granddaughters, Janis Furst in 1967 and Theresa in 1989; and three brothers, Samuel Brain, Albert Brain, and Ivan Brain Jr.
Friends may visit with her family from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 until the memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 N. Rosedale Court, Round Lake, IL 60073.
