Anna Ludwig, age 88, of Wonder Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at JourneyCare in Woodstock.
She was born in Hungary to Mihaly and Anna (Komeiner) Mechler. While growing up, Anna was forced to leave school during the depression in Hungary after completing the sixth grade to work in a factory to help support her family. On Feb. 2, 1946, she married Steve Ludwig in Hungary.
Anna and Steve came to the United States in 1956, where they lived in Danville for three years, followed by Perrysville for four years, and Chicago for 11 years. Anna was a resident of Wonder Lake from 1974 until moving to Heritage Woods in McHenry in 2011.
Employed as a waitress for most of her career, Anna worked at the Bakery Restaurant in Chicago, the Woodstock Courthouse Inn, and in Wonder Lake at the Chinese restaurant for 26 years. She was a longtime member of Christ the King Church in Wonder Lake. Enjoyments included gardening, cooking and baking, and doing Hungarian crossword puzzles.
Anna is survived by two sons, Steve (Jeanne) Ludwig and Alex (Olga) Ludwig; two grandchildren, Tom and Anna Christina; and three great grandchildren, Kathleen, Laura, and Abigail.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve; and her brother, Mihaly.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Wonder Lake. The funeral Mass will follow visitation at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery.
