Anthony George Koegel, age 60, of Freeport, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at his home. He was born September 12, 1954 in Port Washington, Wisconsin to Frank Anthony and Janet (Bennett) Koegel.
A graduate of Mt. Prospect High School with the Class of 1972, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Anthony was employed as a journeyman carpenter for 30 years. He was a friend of Bill W., and was proud that he achieved his 25 year coin with his friends in Freeport. He will be remembered as a wonderful friend, the type of friend who was ‘willing to give you the shirt off his back’.
Survivors include a sister, Kathy Koegel Adams of McHenry; a niece, Kristine (Jesus) Tapia; and three nephews, Frank Adams, Russell (Jenni) Adams, and Gregory Adams Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Gregory Adams, in 2003; and two nephews in infancy.
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1401 North Richmond Road, McHenry, IL 60050. Friends may visit with his family at church from 10:15 a.m. until the time of Mass. Inurnment will be in St. Patrick’s Countryside Cemetery, McHenry.
