Ardene Mae Raven, age 77, of McHenry, died Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford.
She was born July 28, 1936 to Clark and Mabel (Witt) Nicholls. Ardene attended elementary school at the Barreville/Gracy one room schoolhouse, and later graduated from Crystal Lake High School. She was employed by Oaks Mfg. and by the Admiral Corporation until she married in 1954.
She was a wonderful cook, and also enjoyed archery and bow hunting, as well as ice fishing. She and her husband loved to travel in their motor home. She also helped him with his endeavors in running a pig roast company. Family was always her top priority. Ardene’s life was all about giving to people and putting other peoples needs ahead of her own.
Ardene is survived by three children, Julie (Stephen) Sacco of Lancaster, PA, Jeffrey (Susan) Raven of Johnsburg, and Joseph Raven of McHenry; four grandchildren, Jessica (Jim) Richter, Joseph Raven, Justin Raven, and Janelle Raven; great-grandchildren, Payton, Alison, and Gwenyth; two sisters, Carolyn (Marvin) Cox, Joyce (Robert) Nystrom; and two brothers, Ralph (Patricia) Nicholls, and Lauren Nicholls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clinton “Joe” Raven on August 30, 1992; a grandchild, Jason Raven; a brother, Eugene Nicholls, and a sister, Marge Racas.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2013, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Lori Bee officiating.
Interment will be private.
