Audrey Meske Kirschner, age 92, of Northbrook and Crystal Lake, Illinois, died peacefully at her home on June 16, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 24, 1926 in Milwaukee to Clarence and Flora Gesch, Audrey spent many childhood summers at their cottage on the shores of Pearl Lake in Red Granite, Wisconsin. She attended Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and later worked as an executive assistant for Allstate Insurance.
On August 25, 1950, she married John (Jack) Kirschner and together they built a beautiful home in Brookfield, Wisconsin. They lived there several years until moving to the Chicago area and their serene home on Pleasant Plains Lake in Northbrook. She lived there for 51 years until moving in June 2015 to The Fountains at Crystal Lake, Illinois to be closer to her sons.
Audrey greatly enjoyed gardening, and each spring she waited with great anticipation for the blooms of lily of the valley and pink peonies. Her meticulous planning and packing skills made the family’s annual summer camping trips to a small remote island in the Flambeau Flowage in northern Wisconsin incredibly enjoyable for all.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her brother, Robert.
She is survived by her two sons, John (Deborah) of Crystal Lake and Bob of McHenry; her sister Carolyn (the late Orin) Kohlbeck; her sisters-in-law Kay (Wally) Henseler and Mary (the late Arlen) Gease; her nieces and nephews Gail, Kathy, Susan, Susan, Karen, Daniel, Jennifer, Julie, Tad and Wade; and many to whom she was a loving great-aunt.
A Memorial Service for Audrey will be held at 11 a.m. on June 23, 2018 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1133 Pfingsten Road, Northbrook, Illinois, 60062. Interment following the Service at the Gloria Dei Memorial Garden, and a luncheon gathering in the Church’s Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorial contributions to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (847-272-0400) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
