Azalea “Alice” Kemppainen, age 66, of Round Lake Beach, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville.
She was born July 29, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to Stanley and Katherine( Galan) Skrzypek. On July 15, 1967 she married Roy M. Kemppainen in DeKalb, Illinois.
Alice was a resident of Round Lake Beach for 36 years. She had been employed as a lab technician at Baxter for over 25 years, retiring in 2003.
She was a member of the Finnish Heritage Museum of Fairport Harbor, Ohio and the Finnish Society of the Midwest in St. Charles. She was also a very active member of the Round Lake Area Seniors. Alice was a great cook, her favorite pastime was sewing and she had just started quilting. She also enjoyed attending the Baxter Retirees luncheons.
She is survived by her husband Roy of 41 years; two sons, Scott (Luz) Kemppainen of Round Lake Beach, Dale (Kimberly) Kemppainen of Rockford; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Tara and Krystal.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 W. North Rosedale Court (at Cedar Lake Road), Round Lake, Il. 60073.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, at the funeral home. The Rev. Lisle Kauffman will officiate.
Interment will be in East Fox Lake Cemetery, Lake Villa.
