Billy L. Becknell, age 84, of Richmond, died Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry.
He was born January 3, 1930 in Princeton, Illinois to Christopher Elmer and Alta (Glafka) Becknell. On June 25, 1981, he married Linda Stocks at Community Church in Richmond.
Billy was a resident of Richmond for over 35 years. He was a general contractor, and owned and operated his business, Builders Unlimited Inc., for over 30 years.
An active member of Community Church of Richmond for 33 years, he also volunteered his talents doing needed repairs and planting flowers at church. Other memberships included the Woodstock Elks Lodge #1043 for 47 years, as well as being an Executive Board Member of the Ted Williams Museum, of which he was extremely proud. Billy also enjoyed attending the annual McHenry County Fair, where he showed his support for the 4-H club activities.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Linda; two children, Erin (Steve) Engelhardt of Hebron and Jeffrey (Laurie) Becknell of Harvard; five grandchildren, Kyle, Bryce, and Quinn Engelhardt, Jordan Becknell and Carolyn (Jason) Taunis; seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Shirley Meyer of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may visit with his family from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the Community Church of Richmond, 5714 Broadway Street, Richmond, IL 60071. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at church
