C. Robert “Bob” Strand, age 78, of Ringwood, died Thursday, August 25, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
He was born December 3, 1932 in Harvey to Donald and Marjorie (Traub) Strand. On October 9, 1954 he married Carol Rossmann.
Formerly of Mundelein for 27 years, Bob had lived in Ringwood for the past eight years. A landscape contractor and designer, he founded the family business, Strand Landscaping now operated by his son Mark.
Bob was a competitive hot air balloon pilot. He was a member of the Sierra Club, the National Wilderness Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation. He was an avid golfer in his younger years, enjoyed bird watching and will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, natural curiosity, and his passion for life.
Survivors include his wife Carol of 56 years; three children, Joni Strand, Laurie Strand, Mark (Tracey) Strand; four grandchildren, Cory, David, Justin, Karly; and a brother, Donald Strand.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Anderson; and his parents.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
The funeral service will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, at the funeral home.
The cremation rite will be accorded privately.
