Carole R. Whiston, age 76, of Lakemoor and formerly of River Forest, died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the Garlands of Barrington.
She was born May 24, 1933 in Chicago to Andrew and Catherine (Hughes) Reid. In 1966 she married Joseph “Dick” Whiston who preceded her in death in 2006.
Born and raised in Chicago, Carole was a long time resident of River Forest. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received her masters degree from Northwester University. Teaching was her passion. She taught grades 3 to 5 at the Horace Mann Elementary School in Oak Park School District 97. She was a very loved and highly respected teacher. She loved to travel and after her retirement in 1989 she frequently visited Florida, went to Panama City Beach every winter and went on several cruises. She was a member of the Book Club of Oak Park, was an avid CNN viewer and loved attending plays, museums and cultural events. She was a loving mother and doting grandmother to her three grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Stacey (Michael) Thompson of Lakemoor; and three grandchildren, Reid, David and Kevin.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph “Dick” Whiston; and her parents.
