Chester “Gabe” Gabriel, age 85, of Round Lake Heights, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at his home.
He was born July 23, 1924 in Chicago to Albert & Nellie (Danisz) Gabriel. On March 27, 1944, he married Emma Jean Jones in Chicago.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served during World War II. Mr. Gabriel was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Lafayette Post 159 in Chicago.
Formerly of Chicago, he moved to Round Lake Heights in 1977. Employed by Marsh Instruments in Skokie for 43 years, he retired in 1988.
Enjoyments included woodworking, bowling, golfing, and playing drums in a band. He and his wife loved to travel, and especially enjoyed many cruises. He also enjoyed watching many sporting events played by his grandchildren and great grandchildren throughout the years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean; two daughters, Sharon (Craig) Silet of Arlington Heights and Sandy (fiance: Bill Konkol) Jedynak of Lakemoor, four grandchildren, Cynthia (Dan) Felonk of Lockport, Mark (Annie) Silet of Palatine, Brian (Jeanetta) Sepanik of Lake Villa, and Jennifer (Frank) Murray of Friendship, WI; eight great grandchildren, Madeline, Zachary, Carissa, Nina, Madison, Gavin, Frank, and Jakob.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Jerry Jedynak; a brother, Ben; and three sisters, Helen, Jean, and Nettie.
Friends may visit with his family from 2 pm until 4 p.m Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 W. North Rosedale Court, Round Lake 60073. The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Lisle Kauffman officiating.
Inurnment will be at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, on Monday.
