Chester James Bartz, age 88, of Round Lake Beach, died Tuesday, August 17, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Round Lake Beach.
Chester was born July 25, 1922 in Chicago to James and Mary Bartz.
Formerly of Chicago, Chester had lived in Ingleside for the past nine years.
He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, including battles of Central Europe and China Offensive Campaigns. During his tour of service he earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with one Bronze Arrowhead, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Ribbon and the WWII Victory Ribbon.
Chester was employed as a cutter in the sheet metal industry.
Survivors include his two children, Joyce (James) Hillen of Las Vegas, Richard Bartz of Ingleside; and two grandsons, Eric and Adam.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen on June 29, 1990; his parents; and his brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

Cremation rites will be accorded.
