Dan Harrison Miller Jr., age 69, of Woodstock, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Springs of Crystal Lake.
Dan was born in Denver, Colorado on March 30, 1944 to Dan Harrison Sr. and Catherine (Akolt) Miller, the oldest of six children. He attended Regis High School and graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas with a degree in biology. He worked for the USFDA as an inspector where he met his future wife Barbara Jane Boardway. He spent the greater part of his career as an owner of a manufacturing supplies distributor. After living all over the Midwest, Dan settled in the Chicago area, first in Lake Zurich, then Barrington and most recently in Woodstock.
An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Dan’s interest in the outdoors was awakened as a volunteer with his sons’ Boy Scout troop. The fish of northern Wisconsin are now sleeping a little easier. He loved nothing more than sitting in a comfortable chair with a detective novel or a magazine. He loved to cook almost as much as he loved to eat. And his sweet tooth is legendary.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Miller; daugher Amy (Jesse) Torres of Chicago; sons Andy (Stefanie) Miller of Denver, Colorado and Nick (Amoreena) Miller of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren Anastacia Torres, Graham Miller, Oliver Miller, Zachary Miller and Nathaniel Miller; and siblings Terry (Karen) Miller, Steve (Marci) Miller, Mary Alice (Tom) Miller Nolan, Anne (Mark) Miller McKinnon and Betsy (Jon) Bridges.
Visitation and service were held private for the family. Memorial donations may be made to JourneyCare of Barrington. (www.journeycare.org).
