Dolores Adele Hefner, age 85, of Crystal Lake, died Friday evening, May 27, 2011 at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.
She was born April 12, 1926 in Chicago to Herman and May (Miller) Kanara.
Dolores was first employed with Bankers Life Insurance Company, and then worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for two years. She then went on to work for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a division freight clerk for over 30 years. She retired in 1989 to enjoy time with her husband and family.
She was a devoted mother, and a doting grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, bingo, ceramics, country line dancing and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Dolores also loved to travel with her girlfriends and helped deliver Meals-on-Wheels. She was a former member of St. Theresa Church in Palatine.
Survivors include her three children, Ronald (Cheryl) Hefner of Silver Lake, WI., Leonard (Susan) Hefner of Brookfield, WI., and Georgene (John) Sergeant of McHenry; eight grandchildren, Cariann Mayton, Matthew Hefner, Ronald Hefner, Krystal Hefner, Bretton Hefner, Lucas Hefner, Megan Sergeant, and Emma Sergeant; and four great grandchildren, Hali, Hannah, Holly, and Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George on August 7, 2000; and a brother, Elmer. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3500 W. Washington Street, McHenry, IL 60050.
Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
