Donald E. Rosing, age 73, of Johnsburg, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. He was born February 15, 1934 in Spring Grove to Walter J. and Alice (Hergott) Rosing.
During his high school years, he was one of only four athletes earning a total of four letters in high school sports. His sports were baseball, basketball, football and track.
A veteran of the U. S. Navy Seabees, he was stationed in Guam during the Korean War.
He was a resident of Johnsburg for over 53 years. On May 14, 1955, he married Doris Ann Justen at St. Mary’s Church in McHenry.
He was employed by Lodesky Trucking for over 30 years, and was a member of Teamsters Local 301. He was a longtime member of the V.F.W. Post 4600 in McHenry, and was a former member of the Johnsburg Community Club.
Don was an avid bowler, and enjoyed golfing at Pistakee Golf Course and in other leagues. Fishing with his best friend, Paul Frost, was also a favorite pastime. He will be remembered as a caring husband and doting grandfather by his loving family, as well as a friend to those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris Ann; three children, Curtis (Anita) Rosing of Rockton, Gary Rosing of McHenry, and Doreen (Michael) Freund of McHenry; eight grandchildren, Jason Lauer, Justin Lauer, Graham Rosing, Amanda Rosing, Kayleigh Rosing, Andrew Rosing, Kyle Sytsma, Aaron Rosing; a sister, Beverly (the late Alfred) Guetzloff of Huntley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Autumn.
The visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home, 3519 W. Elm Street, McHenry, IL 60050.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2007, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Johnsburg. The Rev. Gerald Watt C.R. will officiate.
Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Johnsburg.
