The Round Lake area lost a selfless servant with the passing of Donald C. “Don” Newby on March 17, 2021 at home. Don had been battling a series of illnesses for over 30 years without a complaint. He was always willing to help someone in need, campaign for an election or cause, and give back to the community he loved.
Born in Waukegan, IL on May 8, 1958 to Donald G. and Florene A. “Sally” (Drath) Newby, Don lived his entire life in the Round Lake area. Don was employed as a property manager but his true passion was attending to the people of the Round Lake area. Don was a volunteer Firefighter/EMT with the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, served on the Round Lake Area Schools Board of Education, was a Republican precinct committeeman, and cared for the residents of the Village of Round Lake as a trustee for the past 24 years. Don loved helping the neediest children of the community as a member of the Fox Lake-Round Lake Rotary Club.
Don was faithful to God and attended the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Round Lake until its closing. Don ministered to the congregation as an Elder on the church Session and was the Sexton for many years.
Grieving Don’s passing are his daughter Marie Nicole Newby and son Donald P. (Corina) Newby. Marie compassionately cared for her father’s health needs for many years. Brothers Thomas and William Newby, sister Sally Knapp, grandchildren, nieces and nephews mourn his passing. Don was preceded in death by his parents and sister Donna Newby Burton.
