Earl E. Smith, age 76, of McHenry, died Sunday, September 14, 2014, at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
He was born May 2, 1938 in Effingham to Oscar Earl and Allene (Engle) Smith.
Earl was a resident of McHenry for over 30 years, having moved from the Lombard area. Since living in McHenry, he was a resident for the entire time in the West Shore Beach subdivision, where he was instrumental in improving and bringing his neighborhood together. He was active with the West Shore Beach Property Owners Association, serving on the Board of Directors as well as holding the office of President and Vice President for several years.
Prior to retirement seven years ago, he was employed as a tool & die maker at Regency Die & Mold of Ingleside. After retirement, he was employed for nearly four years on a part-time basis at Meijer in McHenry, where he worked in the Garden Department.
Earl was an avid fisherman throughout his lifetime, and enjoyed boating when he was younger. A proud grandfather, Earl loved to spend time with his family. He was always willing to help people, and made many friends over the years.
Survivors include a daughter, Tiffany (Francis) Fisher of Burlington; a son, Christopher Stone of Woodstock; two grandchildren, Dominick Fisher and George Fisher; three brothers, Fredrick (Marnie Rawson) Smith, George (Joyce) Smith, and Stephen Smith; a sister, Marion (Bobby) Hitt; and several nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Deborah C. Smith on December 11, 1998.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 19, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ringwood Cemetery, Ringwood.
