Edward B. Wilson, age 100, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Oakbrook Healthcare Center in Oak Brook Terrace.
He was born Nov. 26, 1908 in Chicago to Benjamin and Grace (Scholtz) Wilson.
A longtime resident of Woodstock, Edward moved to Oak Brook in the summer of 2008. He was a millwright for his entire career, and was employed by Chrysler in Belvidere for over ten years. For over 20 years, he was an instructor for the American Red Cross.
Although a quiet person by nature, Edward played a significant role in the recovery efforts following a major tornado that struck Belvidere in the mid-1960’s. Edward also enjoyed volunteering at Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock for 10 years.
He is survived by three children, Gerald Wilson of Romance, Arkansas, Margaret Howard of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and Carole (Robert) Miller of Darien; 9 grandchildren, Laura (Vince) Paluch, Stanley (Shelia) Bieda, Darren (Cheryl) Bieda, Carmen (Guy) Stilson, Kentherlan (Mark) Brown, Tara (Phillip) Rainey, Cindy (Brian) McDonnell, Carla Clemons, Todd (Abbie) Miller; 17 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha in August, 2000; and his brother, Roy Panknin.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. for the 11 a.m. funeral service at McHenry County Memorial Park, Mausoleum Chapel, in Woodstock. Deacon Jim Olson will officiate.
Inurnment will be in McHenry County Memorial Park at a later date.
