Eloise Anne McCafferty, age 86, of Wonder Lake, died Thursday, January 29, 2009, at Alden Terrace of McHenry.
She was born June 6, 1922 in Manson, Iowa to Carl and Hazel (Pecoy) Gulgren. On May 14, 1956, she married John “Jack” McCafferty.
Raised on a farm outside of Woodstock, Eloise was a long time resident of Wonder Lake.
She was a realtor, with her late husband, at McCafferty Realtors for over 20 years. Eloise was instrumental in organizing the Wonder Lake Fire Department Womens Auxiliary, and served as the first president. She was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church in Wonder Lake.
Eloise once appeared on WGN with “Cowboy Bob”. She enjoyed photography, tending to flowers and gardening, collecting sea shells, traveling around the world, and was a fan of the hula dance.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Eloise was especially proud to be the wife of a fire chief with 52 years of service, and the mother of two firefighters.
Survivors include four children, Randy (Charity) McCafferty of Wonder Lake, Dan (Valerie) McCafferty of California, Bruce (Patricia) Erber of Hawaii, and Brian (Jeanna) McCafferty of Wonder Lake; 14 grandchildren, April Little, David McCafferty, Jill McCafferty, William McCafferty, Caileigh McCafferty, Jeff Erber, Jason Erber, Dana Erber, Brad Erber, Molly McCafferty, Collin McCafferty, Shaun McCafferty, Patrick McCafferty, and Kyle McCafferty; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne (Denise) Gulgren of Cary, Eugene (Janet) Gulgren of McHenry; and a sister, Carol (Jim) Dingle of Crystal Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chief Jack McCafferty on Jan. 9, 2000; a son, George on Jan. 1, 2000; a sister, Doris, and a brother, LeRoy.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2009, at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 W. Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake, IL 60097.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery.
