Ethel M. “Mary” Chatham, age 63, of Eagle Rock, Mo., and formerly of McHenry, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday April 22, 2007 while at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She was born September 4, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA., to Philip and Elizabeth (Smith) Clarke and raised in Pasadena, CA. On February 24, 1968 she married Gerald K. Chatham in San Diego, Ca.
She attended the University of San Diego where she received her bachelor of science degree in chemistry. Mary and Jerry moved to Denver, Co. then moved briefly to Wood Dale, Illinois before making their home in McHenry, for 30 years where they lovingly raised their family.
Mary worked as a medical technician in several area hospitals. She also spent many years as a teachers assistant and then the technology coordinator for the Prairie Grove Consolidated School District 46, students K thru 8.
After retiring to Eagle Rock, MO, Mary spent much of her time enjoying the outdoors, being an active member and President of her local quilt guild and doting on her friends and family, especially her boys and grandsons. Mary touched the lives of so many people. For this, she will be forever loved and remembered.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; two sons, Brian (Dawn) Chatham of Fremont, CA., Craig (Kendra) Chatham of Algonquin; two grandsons, Miles and Colin; and two brothers, Philip (Priscilla) Clarke of California and John (Lynn) Clarke of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Michael (1987) and Mark (1975); and her parents.
Visitation be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home, 3519 West Elm Street (Rt. 120) McHenry, IL.
Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 28, at the Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 Bull Valley Road, McHenry, from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral Mass.
Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park Cemetery, Crystal Lake.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Discovery Quilters of Shell Knob, c/o Mary Ryder, 409 Silver Bridge Lane, Kimberling City, MO 65686. The Discovery Quilters is an organization close to Mary’s heart. The quilters will use these funds to purchase materials to make comfort and baby quilts.
