Frank “Mickey” Bartel, age 74, of McHenry, died Thursday, May15, 2014, at Lakeview Specialty Hospital in Waterford, WI.
He was born April 23, 1940 in Chicago to Francis and Marie (Shenkle) Bartel. On June 7, 1975, he married Johann M. Ziemba in Morton Grove.
Mickey moved from Morton Grove to McHenry in 1978. For 50 years, he worked as a supervisor in quality control for the same company under the various names of Rexam-Baxter- American Hospital Supply-Tower, and lastly Amcor. He retired in 2008.
In addition to being a devoted family man, he was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Over the years, he enjoyed many trips to Cumberland, Wis. to fish at the Shypoke Fishing Club.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Johann; nine children, Laura (Michael) Martin of Destin, FL, Daniel (Kathy) Bartel of Elburn, Michael Bartel of St. Louis, MO, Michael (Kim) Didier of Wonder Lake, Glenn Bartel of Crystal Lake, James (Kelly) Didier of Wonder Lake, Darlene (Kevin) Justen of McHenry, Rob Didier of Palatine, Christen (Will) Valleau of McHenry; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Benjamin; a niece, Jennifer; and a nephew, Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Thomas Bartel.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry. The funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
The cremation rite will be accorded privately.
