Frank D. Merlo III, age 73, of Spring Grove, passed away Friday, February 6, 2015, at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest. He was born August 12, 1941 in Waukegan to Frank and Anna (Sacramento) Merlo. He and his beloved wife, the former Paula R. Walters, were married May 29, 1965 in Highwood.
Frank was a hairdresser for 50 years, having owned salons in Waukegan, Gurnee and Libertyville. Frank was known and loved by many and will always be remembered for his kind and caring nature.
Frank is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Paula; a daughter Julie (Mike) Walker of Romeoville; a son, Frank P. (Tammy) Merlo of McHenry; a granddaughter, Christina (James) Allbright; two great-grandchildren, Mikaela and Christopher; two step-grandchildren, Katie Wenzera and Nick Wenzera; two sisters, Marge Merlo of Winthrop Harbor and Grace Toldness of Kenosha; a sister-in-law, Sharon Pearson of Sun City, Arizona; four nieces; and two great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, formerly of Winthrop Harbor; his in-laws, Dewel and Edna Walters, formerly of Antioch; and his brother-in-law, Robert Pearson.
A private memorial service will be held Sunday, March 1. The family asks those who can, please observe a moment of silence on that day at 3 p.m., reflecting on their relationship with Frank and sending him thoughts of peace and love.
