Frank L. Zembal, age 72, of Prairie Grove, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry.
He was born February 4, 1943 in Chicago, IL, to Frank C. And Clara (Ulanski) Zembal. On February 26, 1993, he married Katherine Freeman in Woodstock, IL.
Frank was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
After serving his country, Frank resided in the Crystal Lake area until 1988, then he moved to Twin Lakes, WI where he worked in law enforcement for over 20 years. During that time Frank also volunteered for the Twin Lakes Fire Department as a fire inspector. He then accepted a position as Chief of Police for the Village of Lakemoor, which he retired from in 1995. After retirement, Frank became a Public Safety Officer at Centegra Hospital of McHenry until 2009.
Frank was a devoted family man, and always put them first. He was also an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan. Frank enjoyed shooting at the gun range, golfing, and vacationing in Florida.
Frank is survived by his wife of 22 years, Katherine; six children, Frank (Renee) Zembal, Wayne (Kimberly) Zembal, David Freeman, John (Christina) McCaulley, Richard McCaulley, Dan (Magan) McCaulley; twelve grandchildren; five great-granchildren; and his sister Carol (the late Ken) Embry.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by a son, Kevin, a U.S. Marine, in 1982.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Friday June 12. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in McHenry County Memorial Park in Woodstock.
