Fred L. Reese, age 59, of McHenry, died Friday, December 22, 2006, at GlenLake Terrace in Waukegan.
He was born July 17, 1947 in Hornell, NY to Edward and Elizabeth Jeanette (Osmin) Reese. On December 31, 1975, he married Vicki Fernstrom in McHenry.
He was born and raised in Hornell, NY, graduating from Hornell High School with the Class of 1966. He attended college for a short time before joining the U.S. Navy in December 1983. He served in the Navy for 15 ½ years during the Vietnam and Grenada wars on the U.S.S. Aircraft Carriers Essex, Kennedy, & America. After his military service, he returned to college and received his associate degree in 1993.
He was employed in the private security sector for the past 10 years. He was a member of Hornell United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 in McHenry, the American Legion, Viet Now Vets of McHenry County and AmVets.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 31 years, Vicki; his mother, E. Jeanette Reese of Clifton Springs, NY; three sisters, Sharon (Henry) Ranger of Clifton Springs, N.Y., Mary (Bob) Annis of Hornell, NY, and Bridget (Jeffrey) Bennett of Richmond, VA; a brother, James (Cheryl) Reese of Hornell, NY; seven nieces and seven nephews. He is also survived by his extended family of three sisters-in-law, Tami (Scott) Carlson of Woodstock, Sherri (James) Shampo of Stephenson, Michigan, Cathy (James) Rogers of Madison, WI.; four brothers-in-law, Charles (Cindy Miller) Fernstrom of McHenry, Ronald (Marie Fuller) Fernstrom of Ingleside, Don Fernstrom of McHenry, Gordon (Dave Arnak) Fernstrom of McHenry; and many extended nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Reese on October 29, 2001; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Marjorie Fernstrom.
The visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 W. Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake, IL 60097.
A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, jointly conducted by the McHenry VFW Post 4600 and American Legion Post 491.
The funeral service will be at noon on Friday, Dec. 29, at the Hornell United Methodist Church in Hornell, NY, with visitation at 11 a.m at the church. The Rev. Beth Kottemann will officiate.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, New York.
