George Kammerer Jr. age 90 of McHenry, Illinois, passed away on October 26, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 15, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to George and Magdalene Kammerer.
He married the love of his life, Joyce Magoon on February 2, 1952, in Des Plaines, Illinois.
George and Joyce were Internationally known ballroom dancers and were the First Couple to be Inducted into the Illinois Round Dance Hall of Fame. They spent their lives dancing and teaching people to dance.
George grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois. He was very proud to be a Marine. He served at Camp Pendleton instructing those who were on the front lines how to locate and disarm land mines during the Korean War. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, who loved the outdoors. He was very caring and kind to all.
George was a lifetime and loyal member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge #1329 since 1959, and a member of the McHenry VFW. He was a retired member of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters.
George is survived by his children: Gail Van Kanegan, Guy (Kathy) Kammerer, Glory (Lee) Romano, Gregory (Cindy) Kammerer, Gerri (Steven) Lunde, his grandchildren: Timothy Van Kanegan, Michael Van Kanegan, Stacia Riffe, Lucas Kammerer, Wayne Hitt, Maxwell Lunde, Samuel Lunde, his great grandchildren: Indira Van Kanegan, Maya Van Kanegan, Neela Van Kanegan, Gavin Van Kanegan, Emmett Riffe, and Ella Riffe, and Sarah Mathews and Wayne Hitt Jr. His sister survives: Mary Lou Evett.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 2016 and his parents George and Magdalene Kammerer.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021, at The Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green Street, McHenry, Illinois at 11:00 am.
