George W. Cina, Jr., of Algonquin, Illinois, passed away on January 5, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 21,1927, in Chicago, Illinois, to George W. and Emily B. (Natzke) Cina, Sr. He married Anne Marie (Pintozzi) Johnson on August 2, 1975, in McHenry, Il.
George enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served from 1944-1947. He attended Harrison High School in Chicago. He graduated with a degree in industrial arts from Northern Illinois Teachers’ College and received his master’s degree from Northern Illinois University in 1962. He taught at McHenry High School, retiring after 30 years at the age of 60. Pressured by International Decorators he returned to work and retired 20 years later at the age of 80. He was Master of The Masonic Lodge #158 in 1962. He also was a member of the Tebala Shriners of Rockford, participating in the “bike unit” in many fund-raising parades. He worked for community theatre groups with set construction, while adding an acting role, when needed, with Townsquare Players of Woodstock and P.M. & L theatre in Antioch. His hobbies included golf, fishing. photography, and fixing whatever neighbors and friends needed.
George is survived by his wife, Anne Marie, his son, Alan Carl Cina of St. Louis, Mo., stepchildren: Michael Johnson, David (Freia) Johnson, Dennis (Sharon) Johnson, Mary Ellen (Richard) Laidman, Judith (Nick) Argol, grandchildren: Anna Marie, Ellis, Marlo, Rebecca, Michelle, Joyce, Mary Grace, Rachel, Benjamin, Nora, Samuel, Corinne, Michael, Peter, Andrew, and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Emily B. (Natzke) Cina.
Visitation will be held at the Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles Miller Rd., McHenry, Il, on Sunday, Jan. 16,2022, from 5-8 pm. In accordance with public gatherings, all attendees are expected to wear a mask. A funeral mass will be on Mon. Jan. 17,2022, at The Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 W. Bull Valley Rd. McHenry, Il at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Rd., Cary, IL.
