George W. Punzio, age 82, of Wonder Lake, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois in Woodstock.
He was born Feb. 22, 1930 in Chicago to Frank and Mary (Marzano) Punzio.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served in Korea.
Formerly of Crystal Lake, he was a resident of Wonder Lake since 1980. Throughout the years, he was employed by the City of Crystal Lake, drove truck to deliver fuel oil, worked in security for Union Special, and drove bus for PACE.
He was a member of Christ the King Church in Wonder Lake, where he also served as an usher and helped run the bingo games. He was also member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 08473; a member of the American Legion Post 171 in Crystal Lake; and volunteered at PADS. He enjoyed playing card games.
He is survived by five children, George D. Punzio of Wonder Lake, Regina (William) Barth of Crystal Lake, Nancy (Tony) Russo of Wonder Lake, Maryann (Chuck Schulze) Klasen of McHenry, and Anthony Punzio of Wonder Lake; 8 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Punzio of Brookfield and Josephine Coppoletta of Shorewood, IL; and a brother-in-law, Frank (Barbara) Coppoletta of Rolling Meadows.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anita, on June 2, 2002; four brothers, Frank, Bill, Rocky, and Vito; and a sister, Ann.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 W. Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake, IL 60097.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Wonder Lake.
Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park, Crystal Lake.
