Geraldine E. Nelson, age 90, of McHenry, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Valley Hi Nursing Home, Woodstock.
She was born April 5, 1918 in Chicago to Harry and Caroline (Goetz) Mick. In 1938 she married Doland S. Nelson.
Gerry’s husband enlisted in the Marine Corp. in 1941, after returning from the war in 1945, she and her husband became proprietors of the Tasty Hasty Drive Inn on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. They successfully operated Tasty until selling the business in 1979 and retired to Prairie Grove.
Gerry greatly enjoyed her son’s participation in music. Todd marched in the Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps and Larry in the Norwood Park Imperials and Royal-Airs Drum & Bugle Corps. Gerry was active in the Imperials mothers club and was a member of the Vanguard support team. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great joy to her. She lived a long and fruitful life and will be missed by all.
Survivors include two sons, Larry (Maureen) Nelson of Richmond, Todd (Janet) Nelson of Woodstock; six grandchildren, Amy Lockwood of Woodstock, Victoria Cooper of Spring Grove, Justen Nelson, of Arlington Heights, Michael Nelson of Spring Grove, Timothy Nelson of Richmond, Aaron Nelson of McHenry; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doland in 1981; a daughter, Debra Lynn Nelson on March 31, 1999; and her parents.
Memorial visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, Il 60050.
The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be in St. Luke Cemetery, Chicago, Il.
