Grant Richard Wilson, age 80, of McHenry, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at his home.
He was born November 3, 1927 in Granite City, IL to Grant E. and Helen (Cook) Wilson. On February 11, 1955, he married Charmaine Geers in Yuma, Arizona.
A resident of McHenry for the past 5 years, Grant formerly lived in Wauconda and New Franklin, MO. He was employed by Caterpillar, Inc.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he later re-enlisted to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. He fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal in the South Pacific during WWII.
He enjoyed swimming and hiking and was a doting grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Charmaine; a son, Dennis (Diane) Wilson of Crystal Lake; and two grandchildren, Kate and Kevin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Walter and William.
Friends may meet the family on Thursday, September 4, 2008, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Bruce Milash officiating.
Inurnment will be private.
