Helen R. Boettcher, age 81, of McHenry, died Friday, October 17, 2014, at Centegra Hospital – McHenry, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 26, 1933 in Eau Claire, WI to Felix and Regina (Colby) Leland. Helen was a resident of McHenry since 1957. Prior to retirement, she was employed by PNC Bank in the accounting department.
Helen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in McHenry, where she was also a member of the St. Mary Christian Women. She was also active in the Senior Citizens Club, the Womens Club, and held the position of Treasurer of Holiday Hills for over 4 years.
Activities included reading , puzzles, and crosswords. Helen loved hummingbirds, deer, and dogs, especially the companionship of her greyhound dog, Ruthie II. She was a faithful friend of Bill W. for almost 42 years.
Survivors include five children, Ken (Paula) Boettcher of Wonder Lake, John Boettcher of Wonder Lake, Diane Fry of Crystal Lake, Mark (Kathy) Boettcher of Spring Grove, Regina (Todd Forney) Gardner of McHenry; son-in-law, Brett Gardner; and daughter-in-law, Sue Boettcher; grandchildren, Brad (Dana), Jillian, Kenny, Megan, Melissa (Ed), Jennea, Paul (Amy), Corey, Brad (Okema), Deanne (Mark), Adam (Faith), Britt (Ben), Melanie (Zach), and Samantha; 16 great-grandchildren; and her best friends, Gloria & Ted Mallasch and special friends, Kathy Andrews and Dottie Demke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill on May 2, 2004; her granddaughter, Katie Boettcher; her sisters, Adele Thomas and Florence Tobin; and brother, Robert Leland.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
Visitation will resume Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. prayers, then leaving for the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, McHenry.
Her family suggests memorials to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to Riverview East Library (formerly Nunda Township Library).
