Irwin C. Witte, age 87, of McHenry, died Friday, October 28, 2011 at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.
He was born March 31, 1924 in Chicago to Fred and Hattie (Sietman) Witte. On September 7, 1945, he married Helen Schuett in Chicago.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corp. in the European Theatre.
A longtime resident of Palatine, Irwin had been employed as a manager for Novak-Parker Appliance Center in Mt. Prospect from 1965 until retiring in 1990. He relocated to Florida from 1990 until 2000, moving to McHenry to be closer to his daughter.
He was an avid Cubs fan, loved to golf, enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin and had the most beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. He was also a musician playing the organ and accordion.
He is survived by a daughter, Janis (Edward) Hinz of McHenry; two grandchildren, Kyle (Melanie) Hinz and Kelly (Robert) Brauch; and two great-grandchildren, Alayna and Brayden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in April of 2010; a son, Lee in December of 1983; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday November 2, 2011 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, Il 60050.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines.
