Jean (Bale) Moffett, age 94, of Round Lake Beach, died June 28, 2009 at Hillcrest Nursing Center, Round Lake Beach.
She was born May 28, 1915 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to John and Frances (Bush) Kush.
Jean has enjoyed a good long life and she has worn many hats in her 94 years. She was a concessionaire at all the big State Fairs traveling all across the United States driving her own truck while raising her children. She wintered in Tampa, Florida where she managed a mobile home park and wrote for a local newspaper called the Colonial Beach Newspaper. She was also a member of the “Showman’s Club” in Tampa, Florida.
Jean later moved to Chicago where she managed the “Terrace Room” of Goldblatt’s Department store on State Street. Jean retired to Round Lake where she also managed Beach Haven Towers. Retiring again she worked at the Catholic Charities office in the Round Lake until the age if 80. She still continued to do much volunteer work in the Round Lake area. Retiring for the last time she learned to crochet, was an avid reader and member of a book club. Jean truly loved her apartment on the 1st floor of Beach Haven Towers where she had lived for 33 years. She lived alone and took care of herself until the age of 93. Her final seven months were spent at Hillcrest Nursing Home.
She is survived by four children, June (Arlus) Robinson of Fox Lake, Georgia (Glenn) Bump of Milwaukee, Margo (Robert) Uliks of Round Lake Beach, Daniel (Pauline) Moffett of Romeoville; a sister, Delma “Dolly” Komar of Tuscon, AZ.; 17 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and many great great-grandchildren, she was a five generation grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Bale; her second husband, Harry D. Moffett; two sons Larry Wayne Bale in 1948 and John R. Bale in 1974; and her parents.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 W. North Rosedale Court, Round Lake, IL 60073.
A prayer service will be conducted during the visitation.
