Jerry Sossong, age 64, of McHenry, died Monday, March 9, 2015 at the his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 26, 1951 in Chicago to Clarence and Anna (Gravenstock) Sossong.
A Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 1969 to 1971.
For the majority of his career, Jerry was a carpenter. Most recently, he worked for G. A. Johnson and Son in Evanston, and previously was employed by R.D. Thiel. Jerry was always willing to lend a hand with house projects or remodeling . . . like it or not! He loved to restore old cars, especially his Studebaker, with his nephew, Craig.
A loving father and doting grandfather, his grandchildren always brought the most smiles to his face. First and foremost, Jerry was a selfless family man, who was very dedicated to his children.
Survivors include five children, Chris (Laura Costa) Sossong, Vince (Penny) Sossong, Julie (Kevin) Stark, Jonny (Kimmy) Sossong, and Kathryn (Dave) Blok; 12 grandchildren, Kerri, Mickayla, Gage, Taso, Madasyn, Vinnie, Chase, Philomena, Dino, Yanni, Aedan, and Adalynn; a sister, Mary Ann Doherty; and two brothers, Sam (Judith) Sossong and Clarence (Ann) Sossong.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Tim Sossong; his former wife, Cathleen Sossong; and his brother-in-law, James Doherty.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
Visitation will resume Saturday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until prayers at 9:50 a.m., before proceeding to the 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 3500 W. Washington Street, McHenry, IL 60050.
Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Countryside Cemetery, McHenry.
For those wishing to send an expression of condolence, his family suggests a memorial to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Prayer Garden for the purchase of a memorial brick in Jerry’s memory.
