Joan V. Frenssen, age 80, of Wonder Lake, passed away peacefully with her children at her side, Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Burr Oak Manor, Genoa City, WI.
She was born Sept. 22, 1934 in Chicago to Francis and Margaret (Knapp) Black. Joan summered in Wonder Lake with her parents, and then became a year-round resident of Wonder Lake 44 years ago. She was the owner of the B & E Drive-In in Wonder Lake from the early ‘70’s to the mid-80’s. Later she was employed as the maintenance coordinator for Cunat Builders until she retired.
Joan was fun loving as well as an accomplished artist. She was generous beyond her own means and was always there when anyone was in need. She previously volunteered at Senior Services as coordinator of the home meals program. She was formerly a very active member of the Laker’s Snowmobile Club, enjoyed boating, water and snow sports, but her life-long love was fishing of all types.
Survivors include five children, Frederick Rades, Christy (Gary) Marcellis, Russell Rades, Lee Rades, and Erika (Steven) Strokosch; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Morgan, Myah, Miranda, James, Erin and David; and four great-grandchildren, Payton, Brendan, Kendall and Jimbo. Other survivors include her sister, Jane (Carl) Moraw; and her brother, John (Fran) Black; three nephews, Carl, Eric, and Michael; and two nieces, Janet and Amy; as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with her family from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 W. Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake, IL 60097. The celebration of life service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
