Joel N. Boeka, age 75, of McHenry, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015, at Brighton Gardens of Wheaton.
He was born May 31, 1940 to Norman and Norma (Batchelder) Boeka. On February 18, 1962, he married Aldena “Dee” R. Speck in Grand Island, Nebraska.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Joel enjoyed a 37 year career in various management positions for the propane industry. Prior to retirement, he was employed for 10 years by United Propane of Gurnee.
Joel was active with the Jaycees organization for many years. He was bestowed the honor of JCI Senatorship, the highest honor which can be bestowed upon a current or past member by Junior Chamber International. He was a member of the McHenry Booster Club for many years. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in McHenry.
Favorite activities included watching his grandchildren’s sports events, and participating in the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as a second generation leader. Throughout the years, he also enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Aldena “Dee”; two children, William “Bill” (Amy) Boeka of Wheaton, Elizabeth “Liza” Wiesemann of McHenry; four grandchildren, Michael & Megan Wiesemann and Shane & Tyler Boeka; and four brothers, Donald (Patti) Boeka of Grand Island, NE; Gary (Adriana) Boeka of Los Angeles, CA, Gene (Tammy) Boeka of Gretna, NE, and Jeff (Chandra) Boeka of North Platte, NE, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dennis Boeka, a sister, Suzanne Boeka, and sister-in-law, Kim Boeka.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Following the service, interment will be in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
