John B. Zabor, age 63, of McHenry, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, in Burlington. He was born April 10, 1947 in Chicago to Stanley and Virginia Zaborowski.
Formerly of McHenry and Spring Grove, John was a resident of Richmond for 16 years. He was a graduate of Triton College with an associate degree, and furthered his study in the field of architecture, receiving a bachelor’s degree. He owned and operated the firm of John Zabor Architects in Richmond. He served the City of McHenry as a member of the Planning & Zoning Commission.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Enjoyments included traveling and sports car events. He was a Corvette enthusiast, and owned several corvettes. He was an outstanding cook. John was a doting grandpa to Joshua, who knew him as “papa”.
He is survived by his son, Jeff (Amy Morris) Zabor of McHenry; his grandson, Joshua; and his former wife, Cheryl of Canandaigua, New York.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, on Sept. 11, 2003.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The funeral service will be at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The cremation rite will be accorded privately.
