John Benjamin Affinito, age 85, or McHenry, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, at his home. He was born June 18, 1929 in Italy to Antonio and Assunta (Sessa) Affinito. On September 19, 1959, he married Gina A. Passaro in Chicago.
John was a resident of Hebron from 1976 until moving to McHenry in 1990. He was an x-ray technician for over 30 years, working at McHenry Hospital and Memorial Hospital for McHenry County.
A loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, John’s family was always the most important thing during his life. He truly enjoyed being a doting grandfather, as well as always being there for his family. An avid Chicago Bears fan, John also enjoyed gardening.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in McHenry, where he also served as an usher. He previously attended Christ the King Church in Wonder Lake.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gina; two children, John C. (Barbara) Affinito and Linda (Brian) Anderson; five grandchildren, Erica (Dane) Kalisek, Julia Affinito, Nicholas Affinito, Gina Anderson, and Jason Anderson; a brother, Clement Affinito; and a sister, Dora (Vincent) Argentino.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Anna Ditore.
Friends are invited to gather from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry, IL A memorial Mass for John will follow at 11 a.m. at church.
