John McCole, age 80, of Wonder Lake, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at his home in Wonder Lake.
He was born May 18, 1930 in Ireland to Richard and Mary (McLaughlin) McCole.
John came to the United States in 1949 from Ireland. He lived in Boston and then Chicago. He worked in the construction industry most of his life. He owned and operated Shamrock Sewer & Water in Wonder Lake until 1984.
John was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He enjoyed fixing things and traveling. His favorite places to travel were Las Vegas and the Dells. He will be remembered by family and friends for his great sense of humor and his caring, generous, supportive, understanding nature.
He is survived by two children, Josephine (Todd) Helm of Wonder Lake, John (Ana) McCole of Chicago; a step-granddaughter, Brianna Ortega; a sister, Mary Rose (Jack) Baillie of Chicago; three brothers, Charles McCole of Chicago, William (Jeanine) McCole of Lake Forest, Philip (Sarah) McCole of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edwina McCole on July 4, 1984; two sisters, Celia Douglas, Margaret McSheffrey; and five brothers, Edward, Barney, Richard, Pat and James McCole.
Visitation will be on Monday March 21, 2011 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake, IL 60097.
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, at Christ The King Church, 5006 E. Wonder Lake Road, Wonder Lake, Il 60097.
Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery, Wonder Lake.
