John Vincent “Jack” Burke, age 91, of McHenry, Passed to his eternal home on November 3, 2006.
Jack lived his childhood in Chicago, married in 1948 and devoted his life to his family. He was a graduate of DePaul Academy and served in the Coast Guard during World War Two. He retired from Lindberg Engineering Co., Chicago, after 38 years.
He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Ann (nee Dempsey). He was the much loved father of Richard (Christy) Burke, Maureen (Edward) Kane, Jack (Martha) Burke Jr., Thomas (Regina) Burke, Patricia Burke, Anne (Tony) Coughlin, Eileen (Robert) Hastings. He was the proud grandfather of Thomas Burke, Michelle (Steven) Blankenship; Michael, Sean, Patrick and Maureen Kane; Erin, Amy, and Jack III Burke; Rachel, Kathleen, Matthew, Mary, and Kevin Burke; Kevin, Emily and Sarah Coughlin; and Daniel, Michael, Colleen and Timothy Hastings; and the great grandfather of Sean Kane. Jack was the dear brother of Richard P. Burke of St. Petersburg, FL and the dear brother-in-law of Agnes Brown, Kathryn Hastings and the late Bishop Michael Dempsey.
He was preceded in Death by his parents, Richard and Anne (Thornton) Burke and his step-mother, Nora (Sweeney) Burke.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry, IL.
Visitation will continue on Wednesday, November 8, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Evanston.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate Masses to be celebrated or a memorial contribution be given to the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager Ave., Barrington, IL 60010, or a charity of your choice.
