Joseph C. Kurzeja, 79, of Wonder Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.
He was born February 26, 1927 in Chicago to Karol and Sophie (Franczyk) Kurzeja. On June 17, 1950, he married Charlotte L. McClaflin at St. Ann’s Church in Chicago.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Raised and educated in Chicago, he summered in Wonder Lake from 1969 until becoming a full time resident in 1983. He was a 47 year employee of ISGO Corporation in Chicago, a wall coverings distributor. He held many positions throughout the years, and retired in 1989.
An avid golfer, he also enjoyed photography, coin collecting, sports, especially the Bears and Cubs, yardwork and tending to his flowers, and investing. He was a pet lover and enjoyed time with his cats, Callie, Cappy, and Buffy.
A member of Christ the King Church in Wonder Lake, he also was a former longtime member of the Indian Ridge Improvement Board and a member of the American Legion Post.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Charlotte; two children, Nancy (Carl) Tomaso of Woodstock and Joseph M. (Stacia) Kurzeja of Kokomo, IN; three grandchildren, Joe and Danny Tomaso and J. D. Kurzeja; a sister, Mary (the late Teddy) Sielepkowski of Berwyn.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, John; and three brothers, John, Michael, and Charles.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2006 at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 W. Hancock Dr. Wonder Lake, IL 60097. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Christ The King Church, 5006 E. Wonder Lake Rd., Wonder Lake.
Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery.
