Joseph G. Miller Jr., age 84, of Johnsburg, died Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Lake Forest Place.
He was born July 17, 1931 in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, to Joseph G. Sr. and Bertha (Kubilus) Miller. On October 25, 1958, he married Dorine A. Barulich at St. Joseph Church in West New York, NJ.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Joe entered the Sea Scouts where he developed a passion for boating and a love for the water. He graduated cum laude in 1953 from St. John’s University with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. After graduation, Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army. In 1970, he and his family moved from the East Coast to Lincolnshire, Illinois. Then in 1983, Joe found his home next to the water in Johnsburg, Illinois. Joe retired from Abbott Laboratories as Vice President, Sales and Marketing Hospital Products Division, in 1988 after 36 years with the company.
He was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, serving on various boards and councils to support and nurture the future of the church he held so dear. Following the water, Joe and Dorine wintered in Naples, FL, as members of the Pelican Isle Yacht Club. Joe was a passionate gardener, avid reader, and enjoyed public speaking.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorine; three children, Carolyn (Jeff) Futrell of Fort Wayne, IN, Gerald J. (Sharon) Miller of Crystal Lake, and Nancy (Mark) Hipskind of Glenview; eight grandchildren, Jenny Futrell, Katie Futrell, Kevin Futrell, Grace Miller, Mary Miller, Kelsey Hipskind, Sean Hipskind, and Brian Hipskind.
In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Miller.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will resume Thursday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until closing prayers at 10:15 a.m. The Mass will be at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church Street, Johnsburg, IL 60050.
Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Johnsburg.
