Lawrence B. “Larry” Davison, age 86, of McHenry, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry.
He was born May 28, 1925 in West Virginia, and was the son of Thomas and Roma (Bartlett) Davison. He married Mary Serio on May 9, 1948 in Chicago.
Larry moved as a child to Maywood, where he graduated from Proviso East High School. After high school, he was drafted into military service, where he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Following military service he returned to Maywood, where he began a 42 year career with Illinois Bell Telephone. During his time with Illinois Bell, he spent 25 years working at O’Hare Airport, and later worked out of the Elk Grove office before retiring in 1988. In addition to his full-time job, he also held a part-time job with a cord manufacturing company. He worked three nights a week for 51 years until he was age 76, only taking time off to serve as basketball coach for his children.
He enjoyed fishing and was an avid ballroom dancer. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and VFW Post 4600, and regularly traveled to the Elgin Moose Lodge for ballroom dancing. He will be remembered for his happy disposition and always being on the go, as well as his skill in being a very handy person.
He is survived by three children, Larry (Patricia) Davison of Algonquin, Steve (Ada) Davison of Bartlett, and Sue (Tom) Poulos of McHenry; four grandchildren, Larry (Katie) Davison of Lake-in-the-Hills, and Jake, Luke, and Gina Poulos of McHenry; and two great-grandchildren, Sara and Sam.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Davison in 1997; a granddaughter, Sara, in 1994; and a sister, June Noteboom.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
Visitation will resume at church on Monday, October 3, from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3500 W. Washington Street, McHenry.
Entombment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
