Leona J. Ross, age 88, of McHenry, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.
She was born July 6, 1923 in Niles to Christian and Emelia (Penno) Hennig. On October 30, 1948, she married William Ross in Des Plaines.
Leona was a resident of McHenry since 1976. She worked with her husband in the family business, Ross Bus Sales and Service, where she used her talents in accounting. Introduced to business as a young girl, she recalled her years growing up spending time helping her father with his seed business.
Family was always her primary focus. She will be remembered for always being there for her family, never missing a birthday or a holiday celebration. Enjoyments included putting together photo albums, as well as doing stitchery projects. She was loved by those who were fortunate to know her, and will be truly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, William; a son, Kenneth Ross of McHenry; a sister, Helen (Arthur) King of Bradenton, FL; four nieces, Linda Krueger, Donna Richard, Marcia McCallum, and Lynn Gerlitz; two nephews, Ross and Reed Davis; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a nephew, Leonard Ross.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Inurnment will be private.
