Lillian M. Amos, age 94, of McHenry, died Monday, November 1, 2010 at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.
Born January 23, 1916 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Henry and Amelia (Bade) McCorry, Lillian was raised and educated in Chicago. Following her marriage to Floyd Amos on January 20, 1947, they settled in Des Plaines, where they raised their family. Later, Lillian lived in Davenport, IA for 12 years, then moved to Fox Lake in 1999. For the past 6 years, she lived in McHenry.
A longtime employee of the State of Illinois, Department of Employment Security, she worked for almost 15 years prior to raising a family, and then returned for several more years when her children were older.
A school crossing guard for many years in Des Plaines, she was also involved with the Girl Scouts organization. Lillian was a former member of St. Mary’s Church in Des Plaines, where she was also active in the St. Mary’s Womens Club. Later, she attended both St. John the Baptist Church and St. Bede’s Church.
An avid traveler, she enjoyed trips throughout the world, traveling to destinations including Australia, Fiji, Ireland, Morocco, England, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
She is survived by six children, Arlene (Joel) Sauer of Davenport, IA, Eugene (Lorraine) Amos of McHenry, Marilyn (Leo) Garcia of Fox Lake, Susan (Robert) Beeken of Fruita, CO, Diane (David) Grewe of Arlington Heights, and Lorraine Anderson of Wheeling; 15 grandchildren, Brian, Carl, James, Timothy, Baldomero Jr., Marsha, Bradley, Elizabeth, Christopher, Sheila, Danielle, Joseph, Robert, Scott, and Amy; and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Floyd, in 1998.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry.
Visitation will resume at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. Thursday until leaving at 9:30 a.m. for church. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at St. John the Baptist Church, Johnsburg.
Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Johnsburg.
