Marietta Hopkins, age 83, of Spring Grove, died Friday, August 2, 2013, at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock,
Born September 26, 1929 in Chicago to Roman and Adeline (Szatkowski) Skarbek, she was a graduate of Foreman High School in Chicago. On June 9, 1950, she married Joseph Hopkins in Chicago. For over 60 years, she was a resident of Spring Grove. Marietta was employed at Intermatic, and then became a stay at home mom while raising her children, before returning to Intermatic after her children were older.
She attended St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Ingleside. Enjoyments included traveling with her husband, golfing, reading, and family activities. An avid movie fan and critic, she was especially fond of scary movies.
She is survived by four children, JoAnn Hopkins of Crystal Lake, June Rubicuski of Lake In The Hills, Greg (Debbie) Hopkins of Grayslake, and Steven (Roxanne) Hopkins of Spring Grove; five grandchildren, Renee (Mark) Walker of Huntley, Morgan (Steve) Mizener of Ingleside, Kelsey (Mike) Harris of Mundelein, Joe Rubicuski of Lake In The Hills, Rich (Kate) Hopkins of Lake Zurich, Stephen Hopkins of Dayton, Ohio ; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn Walker of Huntley, and Will Hopkins of Lake Zurich; a sister, Ceil (Mike) Ryan of Chicago; sister-in-laws, Bernice Skarbek of Cedar Rapids, IA and Ceil (Ace) Jordan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; her brother, Herb Skarbek, and a sister, Beatrice “Peachy” Haras; and several sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.
Friends are invited to join her family at a celebration of life gathering at D’Andrea Banquets, 4419 Highway 14, Crystal Lake, IL 60014, on Friday, August 9, from 6:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
