Mark Patrick McMichael, age 51, of McHenry, passed away following a long battle with leukemia Monday, February 23, 2015, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born March 17, 1963 in Denver, CO to Gleason and Janet (Gemlo) McMichael. On May 28, 1994, Mark married the love of his life, Dawn Gorham, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in McHenry.
Before living in McHenry, Mark also resided in Dundee and Wonder Lake. He was employed for over 20 years by the Fox Valley Laborers Local No. 582.
A favorite pastime was watching his son’s baseball games at the VFW in McHenry. Mark was also active as coach and a member of the board of directors of his son’s baseball league. Other enjoyments included camping and the outdoors. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dawn; his son, Zachary; his father, “Mac” McMichael; his brother, Mike McMichael and two sisters, Joni (Rick) Simms and Leah (Cliff) Garcia; three nephews, Dan, John and Lou; six nieces, Julianne, Shannon, Hannah, Sarah, Lauren and Rachael; his great-niece, Jailynn; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Sandy Gorham; a sister-in-law, Debbie (Patrick) Burns; and a brother-in-law, Jay (Sonja) Gorham.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet, in October of 2013.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. A service celebrating his life will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. His family encourages those attending to honor Mark’s memory by dressing casually and wearing Bears attire if possible.
