MaryAnn B. Targo, age 96, of Johnsburg, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at her home. She was born May 25, 1914 in Chicago to Frank and Katherine (Slominski) Piekarski.
Formerly of Glendale Heights, she was a resident of Johnsburg for the past 33 years. Prior to retirement, MaryAnn worked as a dispatcher for the Carol Stream Police Department as an outstanding and dedicated employee;retiring from the department in 1977.
MaryAnn was raised in the Catholic faith, which remained an important foundation throughout her life and raising her own family. She was an avid cook, enjoyed reading books, playing cards and games with family and friends; and following political and news channels. She was an avid follower of the soap opera, One Life to Live.
She is survived by three children, Raeita (Jack) Johnson of Johnsburg, Ronald (Karen) Targo of Glendale Heights, and Pamela Skinner of Tuscon, AZ; eight grandchildren, Jim Targo, Ernest (Anne) Johnson, Belinda Targo, Justin Skinner, Kristi Lara, Alyssa Hawkins, Dale Johnson, Kenny Hawkins; 11 grandchildren, Raymond, Bob, Michael, Joseph, Shane, Jordan, Alexis, Erika, Madison, Tonya, and Celeste; and a great great grandchild, Trent; and many nieces and nephews. MaryAnn was lovingly nicknamed “Bame” by her great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in July, 1990, and her brothers; Harry and Leonard.
Private visitation was held for the family.
A memorial gathering and service is being planned for a later date. Inurnment will be private.
